This wartime musical is supposedly based on the life of its star Vera Lynn. To be sure, it's about a band singer, Peggy Brown (Lynn), who makes it big as a radio star and then becomes the forces' sweetheart during World War Two, but from there on links with reality are pretty tenuous. Even so, it's an enjoyable romp that includes the chance to see Vera sing with Geraldo and his Orchestra. It's not a great film by a long way, but it's a rich - and rarely-seen - slice of nostalgia.
