Steven Soderbergh's compelling, Oscar-winning drama follows three distinct storylines to paint a bleak picture of America's seemingly futile war on drugs. Michael Douglas is the judge appointed to lead America's fight against the cartels, only to find his daughter (Erika Christensen) has fallen into addiction. Meanwhile, as narcotics cops Don Cheadle and Luis Guzman put the squeeze on a suspected dealer's wife (Catherine Zeta-Jones), principled Mexican lawman Benicio Del Toro makes a one-man stand against the corruption that plagues his force. Oscars for Soderbergh's direction, Stephen Gaghan's unflinching screenplay (based on a British TV series) and Del Toro as Best Supporting Actor serve to underline Traffic as a unique showcase of performance, storytelling and technique.
