Randall Bragg: "I told you you'd never hang me, Cole."
Virgil Cole: "Never ain't here yet."
The grand tradition of the old-fashioned Western is honoured in Ed Harris’s dust-dry drama.
He and Viggo Mortensen play a couple of “peacemakers” hired by the New Mexico town of Appaloosa to rein in murderous local rancher Randall Bragg (Jeremy Irons).
However, their intuitive relationship is put under strain with the arrival of Renee Zellweger’s flighty widow. The action’s as finely honed as a Colt .45 and it sure looks darn priddy. Yes, sirree.
Golden Nugget: Harris originally intended his character to have hair and even went as far as selecting a wig and screen testing it before eventually deciding to play the part bald.
