The World Is Not Enough

This is more like the Bond of old. From the first 10 minutes of this James Bond film we are treated to jet-propelled, exhilarating stuff, culminating in a machine-gun rattling speedboat chase down the Thames, with 007 (Pierce Brosnan) aboard Q's latest mechanical marvel. Lots of explosions, fast editing, faster women and a villain (Robert Carlyle) - with a bullet in the head that makes him immune to pain - for whom the world is naturally not enough. It's good fun, way ahead of GoldenEye. Brosnan is as smooth as silk as the agent for whom bed and bedlam are achievable in the same scene. Carlyle is a surprisingly effective baddie, too, in a clean and elegant movie.
