No, seriously, it is.
Sylvester Stallone’s action franchise The Expendables is set to receive its threequel later this year - but in the meantime, things are moving forward for the absurdly-named The Expendabelles, cited as the female equivalent.
In a film destined to do for feminism what The Spice Girls and “girl power” did for feminism - i.e. trivialise it - a director has been found in the form of Robert Luketic (Legally Blonde, Win A Date With Tad Hamilton!).
We also have our first look at plot details in this short synopsis:
"When America’s Navy SEALs are wiped out trying to penetrate the island lair of a deadly despot who has captured one of the world’s top nuclear scientists, it becomes clear that there is no such thing as the right man for the job and that this is a mission so impossible that only women can handle it. The only way in: some of the world’s deadliest female operatives must pose as high-class call-girls shipped in by private plane to satisfy a dictator–and instead save the scientist and the day."
Nothing like a women posing as prostitutes for true female empowerment, eh?
