The casting rumours for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 have begun, with Shailene Woodley tipped to take over the role of Mary-Jane Watson in the reboot sequel.
Woodley impressed the critics with her turn as George Clooney's daughter in the Oscar nominated The Descendants, making her an ideal candidate given the high calibre of acting talent (if not script - Ed) in the last outing.
Marc Webb, who directed this year's reboot, has been confirmed as the sequel's director, while Andrew Garfield will once again play the teenage superhero alongside Emma Stone as Gwen Stacey.
It's also being rumoured that the villain of the next outing will be Electro, the alter-ego of a character called Max Dillon, who gains the power to control electricity after being struck by lightning.
According to Variety Woodley is said to be in negotiations to play the part of MJ, previouly played by Kirsten Dunst in the Sam Raimi trilogy, while Sony are also looking at casting the role of Harry Osborn, the part played by James Franco in Raimi's movies.
The Amazing Spider-Man sequel will be the second of three proposed Spidey movies, with Sony looking to tell the story of Peter Parker's lost parents over the course of the trilogy.
The movie might not yet have a cast, but it does have a release date - May 2014.
