The process of promoting a movie is pretty much set in stone. Release a teaser trailer, release a poster. Release a full trailer that shows some plotlines and a couple of movie reviews. Then release the movie and hope for the best (along with some crazy/ hair-brained/ mildly diverting stunts in the meantime).
Try telling that to the producers of The Comedy, a new drama from Rick Alverson.
The trailer doesn't feature clips. There's no montage or mixture of pop songs to convey the movie's themes. Rather, a single, dialogue-free scene plays out as the backdrop to a string of negative reviews, which are plastered across the screen.
It's a novel and attention-grabbing idea. But it does make us wonder if A) the movie is a bit rubbish and B) if the producers are a little over-sensitive.
Watch it below to see what you think (Be warned, an F-BOMB lies within...)
