Will The Mandarin return?
[SPOILER ALERT- If you haven’t seen Iron Man 3, kindly move on. There’s nothing for you here…]
With his interpretation of Tony Stark’s nemesis, The Mandarin, Iron Man 3 writer and director Shane Black may have upset comic book purists, but delighted film audiences with a twist nobody saw coming.
That the public face of international terrorism was merely a second-rate, drug-addled alcoholic actor with a penchant for the ladies was a daring but brilliant gambit.
In a recent interview for ‘Ender’s Game’, Sir Ben Kingsley admitted that he had returned to one of Marvel’s most unexpected and satisfying characters, but wouldn’t give any details:
"It's a secret Marvel project. I'm not allowed to say any more, you're going to have to wait and see…I was with many members of the crew that were involved in 'Iron Man 3.' It was lovely to see them again. It was great to be with this wonderful family”
So what might he have been up to? It’s almost certainly a short, but with who and for what? An origin story? The mighty Croydon thespian Trevor Slattery’s road to global terror?
Or might he cameo in an upcoming Marvel movie?
With The Mandarin, you never know. Just follow the booze and the free hookers.
