Sam Worthington set to return for Avatar sequels

Zoe Saldana also returning.

In deeply unsurprising and frankly rather uninteresting news, Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana have now confirmed that they will be returning for James Cameron’s set of Avatar sequels.

The filmmaker is filming three sequels back-to-back in New Zealand, with the first scheduled to be released in December 2016, and a new film appearing twelve months following, Hobbit/Lord of the Rings style.

There was never much doubt that Cameron’s two alien leads would return to the franchise. The sequels to the 2009 original, currently the highest-grossing film of all time, will again be set in the distant alien moon of Pandora.

Cameron has claimed that the new film will be a “Godfather-esque saga” detailing the family of Jake Sully (Worthington) and will feature extended scenes underwater.
