Paul gets that shrinking feeling

Anchorman and This Is 40 star Paul Rudd has been confirmed for the role of Ant-Man in British director Edgar Wright's upcoming big screen adaptation.

He will play scientist Henry Pym, a comic book boffin who discovers a substance that can change his size to be a tiny superhero fighting alongside his girlfriend Janet Van Dyne aka The Wasp.

Production is due to begin early next year in Georgia with a script co-written by Wright and Joe Cornish (Attack the Block).

Rudd's breakout film was Clueless in 1995 and he has since starred in the Judd Apatow comedies The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Knocked Up and This Is 40.

Wright's original plans for the film called for both Pym and the later Ant-Man of the comics, Scott Lang, to appear in the feature.

The film, which is billed to launch "Phase Three" of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will follow Avengers: Age of Ultron's May, 2015 release.
