(Rhi-)no screen time for Giamatti.
The Rhino, the classic super villain to be played by Paul Giamatti in the Amazing Spider-Man sequel, will only appear in the film for four minutes, it has been confirmed.
Speaking at SXSW festival in Austin, Texas, the appropriately-named director Marc Webb admitted that the famous villain would only play a minor role, and allayed fan fears about putting too many villain eggs into one movie basket, so to speak.
In addition to the Rhino, other villains doing battle with Spidey in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 include Electro (Jamie Foxx), Harry Osborn (Dane DeHann) and Norman Osborn (Chris Cooper).
Also rumoured to appear are Venom, The Vulture, Hydro-Man, and Spencer Smyth.
Addressing concerns at the Q&A that his movie would follow in the murky footsteps of Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 3 (which somehow squeezed in Green Goblin, New Goblin, Sandman and Venom), Webb said: "we're obviously familiar with the complaints people had. We're very careful to make sure the stories intertwine. For Peter Parker, it's very important that you create obstacles that are difficult to overcome."
Publicity for the film has been ramping up considerably as we approach release, but there has been curiously little mention of the Rhino in any of the promo material.
Giamatti has confirmed he will return for already-greenlit The Amazing Spider-Man 3, which suggests he may have a larger role next time around.
Sony previously announced plans to release one Spider-Man movie or movie spin-off per year.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is out in cinemas on 18th April, 2014.
