Reeves to direct third Apes drama

No monkeying around

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves is to helm the third installment of the franchise.

Reeves will co-write the script with Mark Bomback, who wrote the script for the critically-acclaimed sequel to Rise of the Planet of the Apes, which earned $482m worldwide in 2011.

Set 15 years after 2011's reboot, the sequel charts the increasingly bitter struggle betwen the apes (ledy by Andy Serkis's Caesar) and Gary Oldman's group of human virus survivors.

Reeves, who directed Cloverfield and Let Me In, is set to begin production immediately after completion of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes swings into cinemas in July 2014.
