Stallone would be involved in some capacity.
1982 was a long time ago and John Rambo has travelled far since First Blood. It’s easy to forget that Ted Kotcheff’s film had something to say about Post Traumatic Stress and the treatment and alienation of Vietnam veterans returning to the US.
Those themes were of course abandoned long ago with Rambo wielding any number of heavy weapons to help kill hundreds of foreigners of whom the former Green Beret did not approve.
In First Blood, John Rambo was mentally ill, by 2008’s Rambo, he was just mental. Now it would appear that a Rambo TV series is being developed.
Quite what form it will take is still under discussion but though he wouldn’t take the main role, Sylvester Stallone has been approached as both creative consultant and maybe to reprise his iconic character in some capacity.
Will we be seeing an R-Rated version of The A-Team? Will said character travel around helping those in need, but instead of bloodless gun battles, will gut his enemies like pigs using a bucknife? Instead of Mr. T fist fights, will he decapitate them with rocket launchers? Will he love it when a plan comes together? That plan being the slaughter of baddies…?
It’s an intriguing…and very silly premise. It probably means it will be a huge hit.
