Point Break remake casts its Johnny Utah

25 February 2014

Last month, it was announced that the remake of 90s cult classic Point a Break was very much moving forward, with Gerard Butler in the role that made Patrick Swayze famous as surfer dude Bodhi.

Now the second lead has been cast, in the shape of relative unknown Luke Bracey.

Bracey will play Johnny Utah, first played by Keanu Reeves in the 1991 original. The Australian actor is currently best known for roles in G.I. Joe: Retaliation and Monte Carlo, plus a stint on Australia's second-favourite soap opera Home And Away, where all Australian actors are apparently obliged to start their careers.

Ericson Core will make his directorial debut on the reboot, having started as a cinematographer on action films like The Fast & The Furious.

Point Break, which revolved around criminals in a Californian surfing community, was originally directed by Kathryn Bigelow (Zero Dark Thirty).
