He has a dream - that Jamie Foxx will star.
Oliver Stone has a strong track record of critical and commercial success with his historical projects that have included JFK, Nixon, and Platoon. And of course, …er…Alexander- the worst thing to happen to the Greeks since joining the Euro.
However, his plans for a film about Martin Luther King are apparently moving forward, with his Any Given Sunday star Jamie Foxx currently in talks to play the iconic civil rights leader.
Stone’s movie has the support of the King family, though we don’t yet know if he plans to film the story of King’s life, or focus on a particular period.
Fellow director Paul Greengrass has also had a MLK project in development for some time, though his uncompromising study of aspects of King’s personal life have has met with the family’s disapproval, and may yet prove an obstacle to financing.
Two rival studios trying to make the definitive Martin Luther King biopic?
Which will be best?
There’s only one way to find out…
(It’s what Dr King would have wanted).
