Mystique lining up for X-Men spin-off

11 April 2014

X-Woman may get her own movie.

Shapeshifting blue mutant Mystique may enjoy her own standalone movie outside of the main X-Men movies, according to reports.

The villainous mutant, currently played by Jennifer Lawrence (and originally played by Rebecca Romijn in the original trilogy), is high on the list of candidates for a spin-off movie, according to a producer at Fox.

Lawrence’s take on the character is next due to be seen in X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Simon Kinberg, a writer and producer on the movie, told Entertainment Weekly: “I love what Jen Lawrence has done with her, and I feel like because she is in such a crowded ensemble, there’s so much more opportunity if you were to follow her solo.”

Fox’s X-Men schedule is booked up for the next few years, with Days of Future Past first up, followed by X-Men: Apocalypse in 2016 and a third Wolverine movie in 2017.

A Mystique movie could follow shortly after. We’ll bring you more news when it comes.
