Misleading 12 Years A Slave posters withdrawn

27 December 2013

An Italian distributor which created erroneous posters for 12 Years A Slave have apologised after receiving widespread criticism.

The harrowing slave drama is generating huge Oscar buzz for its star, Chiwetel Ejiofor - but the Italian-created posters shrunk the star and instead gave top billing to Brad Pitt.
Pitt has only a supporting role in Steve McQueen’s acclaimed drama, while Ejiofor is in the lead.

The Italian company confirmed that the posters would be withdrawn and apologised for the error.

“We apologize for creating and releasing unauthorized posters for ’12 Years A Slave’ in Italy featuring Brad Pitt and Michael Fassbender in a manner inconsistent with approved advertising materials,” read a statement.

“All inappropriate materials have now been withdrawn. We are very proud of the film and regret any distraction this incident may have caused.”

12 Years A Slave is released in the UK on January 24th, 2014.
