There's a new HD movie channel available on Sky. MGM HD has launched, offering a whole new range of much-loved movies to view in a quality not seen since they hit the cinema.
Classic movies from the MGM library will be available in HD for the first time on a channel dedicated to the studio, launched in conjunction with Sky. MGM HD is now available through Sky and can be found on Sky Channel 345.
The channel will run for 24 hours a day, and features timeless favourites including the The Pink Panther series, Woody Allen classics Annie Hall and Manhattan, Jack Lemmon in The Apartment and the Sean Connery spy drama The Russia House.
It's the 37th high definition channel available on Sky, and is available to customers who subscribe to the Dual Movies and HD packs. Customers without the full Movies package can get it separately for £5 a month.
Bruce Tuchman, an MGM President, said: "We are pleased to be partnering with Sky on MGM's first branded channel to launch in the UK and Ireland. As it truly is the best way to experience feature films, MGM anticipated the popularity of high definition and has been committed to re-mastering many of the great MGM movies in HD for some time.
"MGM has the world’s largest modern film library, packed with great blockbuster titles and renowned classics alike. Now, thanks to Sky, we can deliver all of that quality entertainment content in HD.”
Sky's high definition service launched in 2006 and is the most successful HD service in Europe. There are now over 1.6m HD subscribers in the UK.
