Star Wars to kick ass?

Kick-Ass and X-Men: First Class director Matthew Vaughn has been put in the frame to direct the forthcoming Star Wars Episode 7.

The British film-maker is free after recently dropping out of helming X-Men: Days of Future Past as well as The Secret Service.

X-Men star Jason Flemyng, who has worked with Vaughn several times before, accidentally let slip that he hoped the director would be getting in contact with a role in Star Wars Episode 7.

He told HeyUGuys: 'Me and Matt have done nine films together, so I’m sure I’ll get the call for Star Wars.'

Rumours have been circulating about who will direct the forthcoming Star Wars movie and Collider reported that Vaughn quit the X-Men project when Star Wars became available.

George Lucas, who will act as creative consultant on the forthcoming movies, said he wouldn't be involved in choosing a director.

Disney announced earlier this year that they had snapped up Lucasfilm for £2.5bn and were planning to release three new Star Wars films.
