He's still not doing rom-coms.
Matthew McConaughey's career turnaround looks set to continue, with the lead role in Gus Van Sant's forthcoming drama, Sea Of Trees.
The film tells the story of a man who enters the 'Suicidal Forest' near Mount Fuji, where he plans to end it all. But in the forest he comes across a Japanese man also considering suicide. Together, the pair see an opportunity to come back from the brink.
Ken Watanabe is attached to play the co-starring role.
The project marks yet another intriguing character for McConnaughey, whose performances in Killer Joe, Mud and the Oscar-nominated Dallas Buyers Club have seen him transform from the butt of multiple two-star review jokes, into a darling of the critics.
With Christopher Nolan's Interstellar also in the pipeline, and the forthcoming Sky Atlantic drama True Detective earning plaudits Sateside already, it doesn't appear as though McConnaughey intends to go back to rom-coms any time soon.
