Lohan 'to play porn star Linda"

6 May 2010 by Tim Evans

Lindsay-Lohan-Linda-LovelaceLohan and LovelaceFormer child star and troubled mum Lindsay Lohan is to play the porn legend Linda Lovelace in a forthcoming biopic,  US reports say.

The 23-year-old Parent Trap and Herbie Rides Again actress will portray the star of the infamous hardcore 1972 film Deep Throat in the movie Inferno.

The film, details of which are set to be announced at the Cannes Film Festival, will also star Bill Pullman as Playboy founder Hugh Hefner and be directed by Matthew Wilder.

"We've all thought that Lindsay would be a great choice for a while now, and we're all convinced that she is going to do it," said independent producer Wali Razaqi.

"For at least a year, the director and I have gone back and forth imagining how awesome of a performance she could give if she was in the movie."

"It's probably one of the most challenging roles any actor could play - and not because of the sexual content, necessarily - but more because she was so battered and beat up emotionally, that I think it's gonna take everything Lindsay has to really be able to pull it off.

"Not that Lindsay's life is similar in any way – but she's been through a lot of ups and downs. A lot of times you're loved and then you're hated, and I think she can relate to those emotions and feelings. One week she's the 'it' girl, and the next, she's the 'what are you doing?' girl."

Banned in the UK, Deep Throat - one of the first blue films to bother with plot and character development - allegedly made £395m from box office and home video takings, making it one of the most successful films of all time.

Lovelace, who became an vigorous anti-porn protester, would later claim that she had been forced into her career - often at gunpoint - by her first husband Chuck Traynor.

She died aged 53 in 2002 following a car accident.
