She’ll play President Alma Coin.
Lionsgate, the studio behind The Hunger Games, seems to be doing everything right. If you are adapting a beloved series of books, the wisest course of action is to pack your films with truly great acting talent. That has not always been the case in other well-known film franchises.
Confirming rumours that had been circulating for a while, it has been announced that the mighty Julianne Moore has joined the cast of the two-part finale to The Hunger Games films, Mockingjay.
She’ll play the President of District 13 and leader of the rebellion against the Capitol, Alma Coin.
Moore joins a roster of Hunger Games actors that now includes Jennifer Lawrence, Donald Sutherland, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Stanley Tucci, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Toby Jones and Natalie Dormer. That’s a cast that the Coen Brothers would be proud to have assembled.
Analysts suggest Catching Fire may be heading for a worldwide gross of $1bn. If that’s the case, the quality of the cast will have been a huge part of that success.
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is released on 22nd November with the first part of the final installment expected a year later.
