James Marsden replaces Paul Walker in The Best Of Me

New actor for Nicholas Sparks weepie.

James Marsden has signed up to star in The Best Of Me, the latest romantic drama from weepie specialist Nicholas Sparks (The Notebook) - taking over from Paul Walker.

Walker had been attached to the project, an adaptation of the 2011 Sparks novel, until his untimely death last year at the age of 40. Marsden has now assumed his role.

In a fairly standard retreading of the Sparks formula, The Best Of Me details a high-school romance rekindled after the funeral of a former friend.

Michael Hoffman will direct, and Michelle Monaghan is attached to star in the female lead.

The Best Of Me is currently set to be released in October.
