Reacher-ing for the stars.
Last year’s Jack Reacher was, by most standards, a fairly moderate success. It received a fairly lukewarm 62% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and just over $200m at the global box office - nowhere near the heady heights of Tom Cruise’s career.
But with eighteen Jack Reacher books by Lee Child waiting to be adapted, the studio have obviously smelt a long-running franchise, and confirmation has now come that Paramount and Skydance Productions are producing a sequel.
The sequel will adapt Child’s novel Never Go Back, the most recent entry in the series.
Tom Cruise, who played the Army major turned cop in last year’s film, will return, despite some fan disgruntlement that the diminutive Cruiser did not have the necessary stature to portray the 6’5” hero.
There’s no word on who will direct yet. Paramount are keen for Christopher McQuarrie to return, but he may be too busy directing Cruise in that other action franchise, Mission: Impossible.
