He may play the disgraced cyclist.
It’s being reported that the Oscar nominee Bradley Cooper is close to signing on to the Lance Armstrong drama, Red Blooded American, to play either the drug pedallar himself, or possibly Armstrong’s teammate and nemesis Tyler Hamilton.
Jay Roach, director of Austin Powers and Meet The Parents will be behind the camera but this will be no comedy. Roach’s recent directorial efforts have included the acclaimed political dramas Recount and Game Change, both of which proved he could handle much more than broad humour.
Just like the Tour de France, competition for the first, and best Armstrong story is fierce. Quite apart from ‘Red Blooded American’, there is also a film to be helmed by director Stephen Frears plus another entitled ‘Cycle Of Lies’ to which Cooper was previously linked. There’s also a documentary ‘The Armstrong Lie’ coming from Sony that will round out a strong cinematic peloton.
Of course, despite from the deception, bullying, egotistical denials, punitive threats and ruination of the sport, few people have mentioned Lance Armstrong’s most serious offence- he ruined one of the best scenes in comedy classic Dodgeball. And that alone is truly unforgiveable.
