Independence Day Sequels Named

13 September 2012

It's taken 16 years, but Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin, the producer/ writer/ director partnership that came up with Independence Day, have come up with the names for the sequels to the sci-fi megahit.

And from henceforth they shall forever be known as ID Forever Pt.1 and ID Forever Pt.2. Assuming they actually get made.

Devlin even went so far as to talk about his approach to writing the sequels.

"Roland and I sat down and watched the original. It’s a different experience on television! The thing that really hit me about the movie is how much love there is in it, between the characters, that the filmmakers had making it, that the cast had for each other.

"As we’re approaching a sequel we’re focusing on that aspect of it. Because I think that was really the key as to why it worked for everyone. It was lovable."

While there is a lot of goodwill for an ID sequel, the logistics are still tricky. Devlin is busy working on White House Down, while the cast, which includes Jeff Goldblum and Will Smith, along with President Bill Pullman, might not be easy to pull together.
