TOP MOVIE NEWSL MONDAY 24th OCTOBER
Joss Whedon is said to have shot a new Shakespeare movie, while Gary Oldman and Helena Bonham Carter are being linked with the Hollywood adaptation of the Anime classic, Akira.
Joss Whedon, the Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator, hasn’t yet finished shooting comic book extravaganza The Avengers.
But it seems Whedon may be even busier than we could have imagined. Last night one of his long-time collaborators posted a link to a website called muchadothemovie.com.
The website's homepage lists "Much Ado About Nothing" as "A film by Joss Whedon, Based on a Play" and says that principal photography has just been completed on the project.
Whether or not this is indeed an adaptation of the much-loved Shakespeare comedy, or when the film will actually appear, is still unclear.
But the cast list is sure to get Whedon fans excited. Actors include Sean Maher, who starred in Whedon's Firefly and in his 2005 movie Serenity; Fran Kranz, who stars in The Cabin in the Woods, which Whedon wrote and is producing; Castle, Firefly and Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Nathan Fillion and Angel and Cabin star Amy Acker.
Excited? Think it's all just a marketing ploy for The Avengers? Let us know on Twitter and Facebook.
GARY OLDMAN AND HELENA BONHAM CARTER FOR AKIRA
The last time they appeared on screen together was as Sirius Black and Bellatrix Lestrange in the Harry Potter films.
But now it seems the actors may have signed up to Akira, the adaptation of the 1988 Japanese film about a dystopian neo-Tokyo finally given the green light last week.
The two are set to play a colonel and Lady Miyako, according to Hollywood sources. Last week it emerged that Garrett Hedlund was the front-runner for the lead role of Kaneda, leader of motorcycle gang known as The Capsules. He must save his best friend, who has a destructive psychokinetic abilities, from suffering a series of medical experiments at the hands of the government. The story is based on Katsuhiro Otomo's 1988 anime of the same title.
The Colonel is described as the head of secret government project who conducts a research on psychic test subjects. Meanwhile, Lady Miyako is a priestess who is also a major ally of Kaneda and his best friend Kei.
ERIC BANA FOR ELVIS
The Hulk actor is about to get all shook up in the role of Elvis Presley, as he signs up to Elvis & Nixon, Princess Bride and Saw star Cary Elwes's directorial debut.
The film, which will also star Danny Huston as Richard Nixon, focuses on the 1970 meeting between the singer and the politician, in which Elvis suggested that he become a "Federal Agent at Large" in the national war against drugs.
In the strange and well-documented meeting, Elvis said his anti-establishment image meant he could relate to the public in a more sympathetic way than politicians could.
Presley brought family photos and a Colt 45 pistol as a personal gift to the president to the meeting.
