Guardians of the Galaxy will link up with Avengers

James Gunn confirms shared universe.

Marvel’s forthcoming space fantasy ensemble Guardians of the Galaxy will link up with Avengers and the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), it has been confirmed.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Guardians director James Gunn stated that the film will most likely have major ramifications for Avengers 3.

Guardians is a slightly more outlandish effort from the Disney-owned studio; the film, set in a distant galaxy, features a gun-toting raccoon and a talking tree.

There were some doubts it would fit into the (comparatively) more grounded world of Tony Stark and Bruce Banner.

But a post-credits scene in Thor: The Dark World featured Benicio Del Toro’s character from Guardians, The Collector, suggesting an intertwining of sorts.

The second Avengers film is currently shooting in London; Guardians of the Galaxy is set to be released on 1st August, 2014.
