Hooked on a feeling (that this might be quite good, actually).
Yesterday saw three new images for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy - but yesterday was a simpler, more innocent time, because now we’ve been treated to a full two minutes and twenty five seconds of moving images, in the movie’s very first trailer.
This latest comic book adaptation, a slightly offbeat adventure set in space, sees a ragtag bunch of outlaws (including a green lady, a tree and a raccoon) team up.
The trailer very much sets a witty, tongue-in-cheek tone, balanced with some rollicking action. Any film which plays Blue Swede’s 1974 hit ‘Hooked on a Feeling’ clearly doesn’t take itself seriously - and all the better for it.
Parks & Recreation star Chris Pratt - whose star is steadily rising in Hollywood - clearly brings a down-to-earth charm to this galactic fantasy, ably assisted in this early look by John C. Reilly and British comedian Peter Serafinowicz.
Though the comic book series - a relatively small player in Marvel’s portfolio - did not initially seem like an obvious choice for big-budget cinema, fanboy appetites are surely now well and truly whetted.
We’ll soon see the result when Guardians of the Galaxy is released in UK cinemas on August 1st, 2014.
