2014: A Space Odyssey.
The first trailer for Christopher Nolan’s latest film, Interstellar, arrived at the weekend, and despite giving away practically no details whatsoever, the internet freaked out.
The first film from Nolan since he completed his acclaimed Dark Knight trilogy, Interstellar is an epic near-future space thriller.
The filmmaker has always preferred to keep his cards close to his chest in the lead up to a film’s release, and this is no exception. The oblique two-minute trailer features very little new material; it’s instead largely composed of stock footage and clips of historical space missions (including a clip of Alan Shephard, the first American in space).
Matthew McConaughey is the only actor featured, and he provides a dreamily ambiguous voiceover. He is also seen weeping a car for some reason.
Other actors set to star in the film include Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Ellen Burstyn, Michael Caine, Matt Damon, Casey Affleck, Topher Grace and John Lithgow.
Naturally, even press materials are sparse - here’s the typically succinct synopsis:
“In the future, governments and economies across the globe have collapsed, food is scarce, NASA is no more, and the 20th Century is to blame. A mysterious rip in spacetime opens and it's up to whatever is left of NASA to explore and offer up hope for mankind.
Mainly based on the scientific theories and script treatment of renowned theoretical physicist, Kip Thorne.”
Interstellar is due to be released on November 7th, 2014.
