“What if I felt I needed to kill you right now?”
Chan-wook Park’s 2003 Korean crime thriller Oldboy is a modern classic so when plans were finally confirmed for an English language remake, there were inevitable grumblings.
However, from what we’ve seen of the trailer and this rather intense first clip below, Josh Brolin and director Spike Lee look like they may yet pull it off.
Brolin is the man released after two decades of mysterious imprisonment and who is suspicious of the help he is offered by Marie, played by Elizabeth Olsen. Take a look below.
The official synopsis reads thus:
Oldboy is a provocative, visceral thriller that follows the story of Joe Doucett, a man who is abruptly kidnapped and held hostage for 20 years in solitary confinement, for no apparent reason. When he is suddenly released without explanation, he begins an obsessive mission to find out who imprisoned him, only to discover that the real mystery is why he was set free.
Oldboy is released 6th December.
