Still at large and pulling off daring high-speed heists, four-wheeled felon Dominic Toretto (Diesel) returns to LA after the death of a loved one.
Out for revenge, he soon crosses paths with Brian O'Conner (Walker), the cop who put an end to his crime spree eight years previously before kindly allowing him to flee to Mexico.
Pooling their resources, the two begin to uncover a major drug smuggling operation that involves fleets of gleaming muscle cars zipping across the Mexican border.
Hunting down the mysterious kingpin behind the cartel, Toretto and O'Conner are soon at each other's throats as long-held grudges come to the fore and old scores are settled.
As the film zooms towards the end credits and the inevitable 'Don't try this at home, kids!' disclaimer, a sequel is swiftly set up, that – unless Babylon AD 2 is greenlit anytime soon – Mr Diesel will no doubt be grateful for.
