May the Fassbender be with you?
Michael Fassbender is the latest in a string of actors to be linked to the forthcoming Star Wars reboot.
In part 4433445 of the Star Wars: Episode VII rumour mill, Fassbender has apparently been approached by writer-director J.J. Abrams for an unspecified role.
Also mentioned in the mix are Hugo Weaving (who, as Hollywood’s go-to baddie, is surely being eyed for a villainous role), Adam Driver from HBO’s Girls, and Jesse Plemons from Breaking Bad.
None have been confirmed by either the actors’ representatives or Disney, which now owns Lucasfilm, and many other actors - including Saoirse Ronan, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Jack O’Connell - have been rumoured but later denied.
Another tantalising Star Wars rumour has surfaced, meanwhile, regarding the reasons behind Toy Story 3 screenwriter Michael Arndt’s unexpected departure from the project.
A report has suggested that there was a creative difference that contributed the split; Arndt was keen to focus on the children of Luke Skywalker et al, whereas Abrams and co-writer Lawrence Kasdan preferred to have the Skywalker progeny take a backseat role until Episode VIII.
Is there any substance to any of these rumours or are they as flimsy as R2D2’s parts? We’ll find out when Star Wars Episode VII is released on December 18th, 2015.
