Terrence Malick's acclaimed drama about a tragic love triangle set in rural Texas in 1916. Richard Gere plays Bill, a manual labourer who flees Chicago when he accidentally kills a supervisor at his steel plant. Fleeing to the Texas Panhandle with his girlfriend Abby (Brooke Adams) and younger sister Linda (Linda Manz), the trio are hired for seasonal work by a dying farmer (Sam Shepard). When the ailing rancher falls for Abby, Bill encourages her to marry him so that they can inherit his money. But feelings begin to get in the way of their scheme.
