Little Mr Sunshine
Producer and debut director Bill Pohlad has cast the star to play Wilson, the chief songwriter of the innovative American outfit, in his creative heyday when he was main producer and arranger and wrote or co-wrote many of their classics.
It will also focus on the fraught creativity that produced the seminal classic Pet Sounds as well as the emotional freefall that followed the poor performance of its follow-up Smile.
Love and Mercy, which is being written by Oren Moverman who penned The Messenger and Rampart, said his unconvential approach will help viewers "understand how do you get into that kind of genius mind that has all this music, but also all this tragedy, so much pain, so many scars."
The title of the film comes from a song written by Brian Wilson for his 1988 debut solo album Brian Wilson.
