Chronicle star Dane DeHaan has been cast as the new Harry Osborne in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, according to director Marc Webb.
Webb launched the news on his Twitter account, saying "Meet Harry Osborn. So excited to have him on board. @danedehaan.”
A press release then confirmed the news that DeHaan, who impressed many with his dark turn in the found-footage superhero drama, Chronicle, takes over the role previously played by James Franco in the Sam Raimi trilogy.
DeHaan will star alongside original cast members, Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, as well as Jamie Foxx, who has already been cast as the villain, Electro.
Director Webb went on to say: “Dane is an exciting and extraordinary young actor and he is a fantastic addition to our cast.”
DeHaan first came to prominence in the third series of the critically acclaimed drama, In Treatment, and will soon be seen in Steben Spielberg's Lincoln, as well as the Ryan Gosling thriller, A Place Among The Pines.
He also put in an excellent supporting performance earlier this year in John Hillcoat's Prohibition-era thriller, Lawless.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2, as it is currently known, is likely to arrive in May 2014.
