If Jack Nicholson didn't chill the blood with his performance as psycho-writer Jack Torrance there were always the sub-zero temperatures outside the deserted Overlook Hotel to make you want to wrap up warm.

Snow scene: Interiors were actually shot in England's Borehamwood but the external scenes - based on the look of a Colorado hotel where writer Stephen King stayed - were filmed at the Timberline Lodge, Mount Hood in the Hood River area of Northern Oregon.
