NNNGHHHHRRRRAAAAAAA!

British actor Peter Mayhew is set to return to the iconic role of Chewbacca for Star Wars: Episode VII, it has been reported.

The 7’3” Mayhew will again don the furry suit to play the Han Solo’s faithful first mate, according to sources for the Hollywood Reporter.

Mayhew was already rumoured to return to the role after cancelling an appearance at a fan convention “due to filming”.

Chewbacca - affectionately known as Chewie - appeared in all three original Star Wars films, plus an appearance in prequel Revenge of the Sith.

There were doubts whether the 69-year-old Mayhew would be able to return to the role that afforded him a lifetime of fan conventions and autograph hunters, due to failing mobility problems, but that issue appears to have been resolved.

JJ Abrams’ new film has already started shooting in Iceland, but the new leading cast is yet to be officially announced.

Star Wars: Episode VII is set to be released on December 18th, 2015.
