The box-office odds remain ever in its favour.
Good news for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, which continues to dominate the worldwide box office in its second week of release. The high-profile sequel, starring Jennifer Lawrence, broke records on its opening weekend last weekend and continues to rake in cash.
Catching Fire remained at number one at the US box office, earning an impressive $110.2m over the five days since Thanksgiving, taking its US total to nearly $300m. With international takings included, the film has now passed the $500m mark and could break the billion barrier by the end of its release.
Elsewhere in the charts, Disney’s new animated adventure Frozen opened similarly strong with the best ever Thanksgiving opening, taking $93m - beating previous record holder and Disney stablemate Toy Story 2.
Thor: The Dark World held to third place with $15.4m, but the big negative story of the box office is that Spike Lee’s much-trumpeted Oldboy remake was an enormous flop, scraping together just $1.2m over five days. It looks unlikely to recoup its $30m budget at this rate.
