Marvel's Cinematic Universe expanding.
Disney-owned Marvel are gearing up for their next big release with the Captain America sequel less than two months away - and word has come that it will be an important story link in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In a conference call with investors, Disney CEO Bob Iger mentioned that Captain America: The Winter Soldier “will set critical events in motion” that lead to next year’s Avengers: Age of Ultron.
The events may also affect storylines in Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD, the TV series set in the same cinematic universe.
Early studio buzz has been hugely positive for the Captain America sequel, which will see Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) continuing to adjust to life in the 21st century and battle new foe (and old pal) the Winter Soldier.
Directing brothers Joe and Anthony Russo, known for their extensive work on cult sitcom Community, have already signed to helm a third film.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier is set to be released in the UK on March 26th, 2014. Avengers: Age of Ultron, meanwhile, is a bit more of a wait - that’s due to hit screens on May 1st, 2015.
