Bradley Cooper exits The Crow, JCVD heads to Derby for sci-fi flick and on set spoilers leaked from The Avengers.
BRADLEY COOPER EXITS THE CROW
It didn’t feel like the best of fits in the first place, but now it turns out that fans won’t have to worry after all as Bradley Cooper has reportedly left the remake of The Crow due to scheduling conflicts.
Nevertheless studio bosses still seem intent on remaking the supernatural comic book caper which was famously brought to life on the silver screen by Brandon Lee, who was tragically killed by a freak accident during production of the original movie in 1993. 28 Weeks Later director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo has already been tapped to helm the project, but will now be looking for a new leading man after Cooper pulled the plug on his involvement.
Production on The Crow is due to start early next year but with a part in David O. Russell’s Silver Linings Playbook and a turn in the big budget Paradise Lost project already in his diary, Cooper has decided his dance card is too full to do the role justice.
If reports are to be believed it won’t be long before Cooper’s trailer is filled however with both Mark Wahlberg and Channing Tatum being lined up to take over the role. Wahlberg of course has previous with the project after originally being courted for the role ahead of Cooper, and Tatum, who’s star is rising in tinseltown after high profile turns in G.I. Joe and Dear John, is also a logical leap in terms of action movie leads.
However all three names are still a far cry from Brandon Lee’s wiry goth and the macabre musician from the original comic book run; suggesting that the studio is ready to take the tale in an all new, all action direction.

JCVD TO SHOOT UFO FILM…IN DERBY
It’s a long way from his action hey day, but Jean Claude Van Damme is reportedly set to star in a new British Sci-fi project. The legendary tough guy nicknamed The Muscles from Brussels has been in Derby this week filming scenes for his role as a retired military advisor in Dominic Burns’ alien invasion tale UFO.
Burns contacted the 50-year-old star of films like Universal Soldier and Double Impact by emailing his wife and was astonished when Van Damme agreed to play the role.
The director said that Van Damme was looking forward to seeing the city: "We heard he once visited the city to take part in some sort of martial arts display for about an hour but then headed off. He'll be here for a little longer this time."
Burns described UFO as "Independence Day meets Monsters, told from the point of view of Signs" and the new movie is set to be released early next year.
ON SET SPOILERS FROM THE AVENGERS
With all the Bat-plane images, Bane brawls and Catwoman close ups leaking from the sieve-like set of Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises recently, it’s easy to forget that another comic book behemoth is only just around the corner.
That film is Joss Whdon’s The Avengers, Marvel’s marquee movie about the publisher’s premier superhero team. It’s all been pretty quiet on The Avengers front over recent weeks, but as shooting gets underway on the streets of Cleveland it was perhaps inevitable that on set spoilers would find their way into the public domain.
Whilst those spoilers might not quite match the avalanche of shaky cam footage leaked from The Dark Knight Rises yet, they do give us some idea of the scale of the production. Aside from a few frankly unremarkable shots of Chris Evans in his civvies, the footage shows a massive explosion taking place on a Cleveland street that will no doubt be transformed into New York city in post-production. It’s the first of what will probably be many leaks from the set of the film which stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johanssen and Samuel L. Jackson. The Avengers opens in 3D on May 4, 2012.
