The heat is back on.
Paramount have announced that a new Beverly Hills Cop film is on the way, with Eddie Murphy set to return to the series that made him a global superstar.
Murphy starred in the original 1984 Beverly Hills Cop as fast-talking Detroit cop Axel Foley, and went on to star in two sequels, all of which were huge successes at the box office.
The new film is being described as a reboot rather than a sequel, although Paramount have confirmed that Murphy will play Axel Foley again, which suggests some continuation from the original films.
Brett Ratner, who worked with Murphy in Tower Heist, will direct this new film, which is described as Axel Foley “returning to his Detroit roots”.
Having made, in recent years, such illustrious films as Norbit, Daddy Day Care, and The Nutty Professor II: The Klumps, we can surely trust the good judgement and discernment of Murphy to make this a new classic.
And with Brett “X-Men: The Last Stand” Ratner at the wheel, we’ve surely got nothing to worry about. Nope. Nothing at all. No problems with this scenario at all.
