Hard knock 21st century life.
The first trailer for the remake of classic Broadway musical Annie has arrived.
The film is being produced (with musical contributions) by the hip-hop power team of Jay-Z and Will Smith, who are giving something of a poppy, contemporary edge to the much-loved musical. (Jay-Z famously sampled Hard Knock Life on his single of the same name.)
Annie stars Quvenzhané Wallis in the title role of the plucky singing orphan (whose famous shock of red hair has been scrapped for this reimagining).
Jamie Foxx plays the politician who adopts her to look good in the polls, only to discover his paternal instincts; Cameron Diaz plays Annie's mean-spirited foster carer.
Wallis became the youngest actress ever to be an Oscar nominee in 2012 when she was nominated for her striking work in Beasts Of The Southern Wild. She missed out on an Oscar, but her young career is showing no signs of a hard knock life.
Will Gluck (Easy A, Friends With Benefits) is directing Annie. The sun will come in February 2015, when Annie is released in the UK.
